Mount Fuji
Waterlilies 1.  View from Nihonbashi in Edo

Bridge bulging with cart, hat, buns and baskets

Bursting into the foreground, as one wise boatman

Poles away, past these fish-stinking loading docks,

Past one more almost uninhabited block

To the Imperial stone wall, boulders as big as huts,

The lava wall sealing off these floating blue rooves,

Lazily rising into clouds, or snow,

The color of Mount Fuji.
